The Happy Sport watch celebrates its 20th anniversary

In 1993 Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Sir Elton John created his AIDS Foundation, and Steven Spielberg’s dinosaurs ran in Jurassic Park. In Geneva, Caroline Scheufele, Artistic Director and co-president of Chopard with her brother Karl-Friedrich, launched an original and innovative collection: for the very first time, a watch combined steel and diamonds, overturning all existing design codes in the field of ladies’ watches.

The tone had been set. The Happy Sport collection became an instant global hit, entirely in tune with the demands of contemporary and dynamic women. Ever since, an infinite variety of variations and transformations have been introduced, showcasing endless creativity nurtured by the exceptional expertise of the company’s watchmaking and jewellery workshops in Geneva. Right from the time of their launch, Happy Sport watches cultivated a combination of strength and delicacy, of tradition and innovation. These qualities are expressed through a range encompassing small and large sizes; square, round and oval shapes; alligator leather straps or metal bracelets; as well as a rich palette of colours.

The dials feature the twirling charm of moving diamonds, four-leaf clovers, snowflakes or fish, some framed by a bezel set with precious stones and designed like a sparkling playground.

“Diamonds are happiest when they are free” was the conviction already expressed by Karin Scheufele in the 1970s when the Happy Diamonds line was created. 20 years after its creation, Happy Sport has become a cult design in which diamonds in motion spin freely like luminous whirlwinds, at the heart of a world of passion.

To celebrate this important anniversary, Chopard invites you to rediscover the first Happy Sport watches (HappySport.Chopard.com). A new app will also allow you to create your personnal  Happy Sport watch (the app will be on line on 2nd April 2013).
